So, to return to this subject, it is very important to master Probability and Statistics. But before we discuss this, let’s start at the beginning. First, you must have an honest assessment of your current level of knowledge. Once you get this honest appraisal, you will need to create a plan to get you to mastery. Just as every individual is different, every Mentat will be different, and everyone’s study plan to reach Mentat-hood will be different. It all begins with knowing where you are now, so that then you can define your personal path that will get you to becoming a Mentat! Now, to underline Probabilities and Statistics... imagine you’re in a state with a lottery, and you’ve decided to buy some lottery tickets. Now, assume that the lottery is fair, no trickery or dishonesty going on. Okay, why are you buying those tickets? To be a Mentat, at its core, what skills and education do you need? To begin with you should have a deep understanding of numbers, maths, probability and statistics. In addition, your skills of Observation and deduction should be second to none. Study the various maths, starting with mastering these basics. Have you mastered Algebra? Precalculus? Trigonometry? Linear Algebra? Sets and Set Theory? Statistics and probability? Once you’ve mastered these and more, we can move on to other topics, but remember, to be a Master of Maths, you must constantly practice!

Why? Why do you wish to become a Mentat? What do you hope to gain from this? What is a Mentat? For the purposes of this organization, we are going to define a Mentat as a person who has chosen a life of the mind, a person who wishes to see what others do not, to understand deep relationships between people, organizations, and things. One who desires most of all to understand things in both the physical world and the world of people. If your definition differs from ours, this is fine, perhaps you can logically persuade us to change ours! If not, then we should agree to disagree, for this is our definition.
